Acute Team
For complaints requiring same day attention you will be contacted by one of our ‘acute team’. The acute team consists of paramedics, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses and pharmacists with additional GP support when required for complex cases. Members of the acute team are highly skilled and experienced in dealing with severely unwell patients as well as managing patients with long-term conditions, minor injuries, and minor illness.
You may be more familiar with paramedics treating patients at the scene of an accident or rushing patients to hospital in an ambulance. It may therefore seem a little odd initially that your GP surgery arranges an appointment with a paramedic.
The reality is that paramedics have been an integral part of general practice for several years and they possess numerous skills that are transferable to GP patients. Their training allows them to assess situations quickly but thoroughly. Combined with additional training they receive in primary care, they are able to make decisions on how patients can be safely and effectively treated.
By utilising these additional staff members, we are able to ensure patients receive the treatment they need in a timely and safe manner whilst maintaining good access to GP appointments.
